What is Business Intelligence? — Turning Data Into Decisions

The BI stack explained: what it is, who uses it, and why every data-producing application eventually needs it.

Every application generates data. Users sign up, place orders, click buttons, submit forms, and interact with features. That data sits in your database, growing every day. Business intelligence is the discipline of turning that raw data into answers that help people make better decisions.

"How many users signed up last month?" is a query. "Why did signups drop 30% last month, and what should we do about it?" is business intelligence. The difference is context, visualization, and the ability to explore data without writing SQL for every question.

The BI Stack

Business intelligence isn't one tool — it's a stack of technologies and practices that work together to move data from "stored in a database" to "displayed on a dashboard that a VP checks every morning."
